The British pig industry has been through some turbulent
times over the last few years but many dedicated people
have worked tirelessly to ensure its survival. One of those people, who has made a valuable and sustained
contribution to the industry is in line to be the recipient
of the prestigious David Black Award this year. Anybody from the industry is eligible be they a producer,
an academic, a vet or a journalist. The final selection will be made by a panel of independent
judges chaired by the Chief Executive of the British Pig
Executive Mick Sloyan. Mick said: "A look back at the previous winners is
a roll call of the great and the good from the industry. "But for every one who is honoured in this way, there
must be 100 who keep working away for the benefit of the
industry but do not receive the recognition they deserve. "We want to hear about all of them. The bigger the
list we have to work from the better and I know there are
many deserving people out there." The award will be presented at an industry breakfast held
in London in the autumn. Further information including past winners and nomination
forms are available on the BPEX website, www.bpex.org.uk or by contacting BPEX on 01908 844368. The closing date
