Aberdeen-Angus Stirling Trade Tops at 6200gns

Stirling Livestock Centre’s multi-breed sale, held yesterday 3rd May, saw a top call of 6200gns for the seven Aberdeen-Angus bulls forward with Neil and Graeme Massie taking the overall championship and top price.

Sale leader from the Dinnet, Aberdeenshire-based, Blelack string was Blelack Prince Camelot H986, a son of Blelack Blackstock A227 out of the Nightingale Ernie B133 daughter Blelack Princess Caroline D894. Born April 2008, he sold for 6200gns to Auchenek Estates, Kilearn, By Glasgow.

The reserve champion and the day’s second highest priced bull was the April 2008-born Retties Daredevil H042 from Richard and Carol Rettie, Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Daredevil is by Eastfield Fusilier H042 and out of the Blelack Blacksmith Y291 daughter Jerusalem Diana D090. He sold to Liam Muir, Harray, Orkney for 4500gns.

Two bulls then followed with a price tag of 3100gns, the first of which was Drumdow Elmwood H592 from Willie Brown, Turnberry, Ayrshire. Born June 2008, this one is by The Moss Mr Esspresso D400 out of Drumdow Elsa E354, who is by The Moss Etambo B216. With a terminal index of +30 and a self replacing index of +35, he sold to David Gilchrest, West Linton, Peeble-shire.

The next at the same money was another from the Massie family, this time Blelack Black Ben H053, a son of Carlhurlie Great Start C353 out of the Royal Added Value 19D daughter Blelack Blackbird Y320. Born June 2008, Black Ben has a terminal index of +27 and a self replacing index of +32. He knocked down to Ross Brothers, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.

Another from the Massies, the April 2008-born Blelack Blackbard H984, by Nightingale Definace E264, out of Blelack Blackbird F576, a Blelack Hornblower A243 daughter, sold to the Crofters Commission, Inverness, for 2600gns, while the Retties sold their other entry, Retties Mr Elegant H041, an April 2008-born son of Retties Popeye A003 out of Galcantray Miss Elegance Y359, for 2500gns to J Brown, Dunbar, East Lothian.

Topping the 10 pedigree females forward was Andrew Mylius, Newport-on-Tay, Fife, with St Fort Fleur H758. This August 2008-born daughter of Fordafourie Kris B300 is out of the Netherton Chic daughter St fleur Y570 who goes back to Netherton fleur N26 on the dam side. She was knocked down at 1050gns to MacFarlene Farms, Duns, Berwickshire who bought six of the females on offer.

Averages: 7 bulls £3570; 10 females £887.25 (United Auctions).
