Beef Shorthorn Cattle Society

The Shorthorn breed of cattle, which we know today, has evolved over the last two centuries, from Teeswater and Durham cattle found originally in the North East of England.

Canadian Shorthorn Association

Canada's first imported cattle were likely Shorthorns. Incoming settlers looked to England and Scotland for seed stock. When the first Canada Herd Book was published in 1867, shorthorns were included. The breed traces animals back to as early as 1825 in North America.

Whitebred Shorthorn Association

Whitebred Shorthorns are mainly bred in the Scottish-English Border area and, although the origin of the breed is somewhat obscure, it is likely that they were derived from the red, white or roan, dual purpose Shorthorn cattle of Northern England.

Saskatchewan Shorthorn Association

The Saskatchewan Shorthorn Association is successfully striving to compete in the competitive beef industry in areas such as the Awards of Excellence Program for youth; presentation in Executive Class Shows, such as, Canadian Western Agribition and Saskatoon Fall Fair; host an annual provincial consignment sale - Shorthorn Alliance Sale.

The Shorthorn Society of United Kingdom & Ireland

The importance of the Shorthorn breed in the development of other cattle breeds is enormous, and Shorthorn genetics have been used worldwide in the development of over 40 different breeds.

American Shorthorn Association

The first real development of the breed occurred in the valley of the Tees River about 1600. When first brought to Virginia in 1783, the breed had attained the name Durham.

Canadian Milking Shorthorn Society

Milking Shorthorns are a very old and established breed, and is currently regaining popularity in Canada as a very efficient and profitable breed of dairy cattle. The breed was established in the 18th century in Northwestern England.
